Where To Live

Craven county

An activity-filled suburban area, Craven County offers you the best of all worlds: breath-taking natural beauty offering numerous outdoor opportunities, the small town pace of life in a historic setting, and cultural and shopping venues equal to an urban center.

But Craven County’s most treasured assets are the friendly people that inhabit it.

Eight area townships provide you a wide array of facilities and attractions. Some of our nation’s oldest and most historic buildings, like the Tryon Palace, lie nestled in the county seat, New Bern.

New Bern, the colonial capital of North Carolina, is home to a rich history chronicling our nation’s greatest figures and most trying times. During his tour of the South, George Washington stayed two nights in New Bern, and during the Civil War, Union and Confederate forces clashed only miles away.

That patriotic legacy is not lost to Craven County today. The nation’s largest marine base, MCAS Cherry Point, is only 19 miles from New Bern.

Thousands of Marines and sailors from around the world stand ready to defend our freedom at a moment’s notice.

Craven County is only 45 minutes from Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach. The sea and sand, plus the quaint mixture of shops and towns, make the county a popular tourist spot.
